hug your horses

I think my niece should have received this by now, so I can post pictures. Her birthday was in July during my summer camp frenzy, so I just finally got this finished and mailed off to her a week or so ago. I hope she thinks it was worth the wait. Please excuse the appallingly bad pictures - don't know what was up with that. The quilt was inspired by the horse fabric. My niece is a BIG horse lover and rider, so I knew she had to have something with this fabric. The back of the quilt is horseback riding "stuff" - helmets, gloves, boots etc. I wanted to do a little piecework, while still showing lots of meadows, so I did just a stripe of little squares made from all kinds of prints I had in my stash - leftovers from costumes, other gifts and quilts. It's just big enough to snuggle under while you watch a movie or read a book, so I hope it sees lots of use.

finished

Summer camps are done. (A huge sigh of relief is heard.) Maybe, possibly, I will get a little time back. Wow. While I do some much needed hibernation, here are some photos...

a cute apron for my sister's wedding shower.

Made from Goldilocks and the 3 Bears Fabric.

Staffing the ticket booth at a recent event (wearing a super cute dress I got for $20).

and finally, Puppies! German short-hair pointers from my to-be-bro-in-law's sweet woofer Zeta. Poor Zeta was looking after 9 wiggly puppies in 100 degree heat when I met her. That's one patient girl.

the home stretch

Summer camps are done after Wednesday and I am hoping my life can resume some sense of normal. It has been too much. In the meantime, here is what I have been working on in my spare minutes here and there...

... cozies for iPods, cell phones and other small doo-dads. I sent them off to an art show this weekend in WI, and will be putting the rest in my etsy shop sometime soon. They are knitted and fulled and then embroidered with something fun.

You go girl!

I just watched the video on NASA's website of the space shuttle Endeavor lifting off and sending a teacher in to space! I have to admit that I held my breath, although I already knew it went without a hitch. Hooray for Barbara Morgan . Hooray for teachers!

Thank you to everyone who has checked in with us. We are fine. Safe and sound. We have heard from lots of friends and family and everyone is well. None of us will be sleeping well tonight.
