personality DNA

Stumbled across this on another blog. I can't resist this kind of thing.

The description is very "me".

Your imagination, confidence, willingness to explore, and appreciation of beauty make you a CREATOR.
You are independent, and you enjoy your self-sufficiency.
Defying convention, you are very innovative, and you have a vivid imagination.
You have a strong interest in what is new and exciting—and that includes forging ahead with new ideas, not simply discovering what is already out there.
You trust yourself to be innovative and resourceful.
You prefer to have time to plan for things, feeling better with a schedule than with keeping plans up in the air until the last minute.
Your reserved nature, understanding of the world, and faith in others make you RESPECTFUL.
You trust those around you to do the right thing, so you tend not to get involved in other people's affairs.
You have fewer friendships than some, but the relationships you do have are very meaningful and important to you.
You tend to enjoy the world through ideas and reflection, which allows you to get a lot out of the time you spend alone.
As someone who is calm and centered, you aren't likely to rush into things—this patience allows you to see many different perspectives and options.

too many hours

Too many 50+ hr weeks in a row = not much blogging.

Summer camps are in full swing and this year has thrown me for a loop. We have been so busy. Wonderfully busy, but it leaves little time for me to catch my breath and I feel like I am about 2 weeks behind with what I wanted to be doing this summer.

I owe one niece and one honarary nephew their birthday presents. I am working on them bit by bit and they might have them next week. Will be worth the wait, of course.

I am reading Harry Potter VII again. Slowly this time. Savoring. I read too fast usually. I finished about 2 1/2 hrs ahead of Andy. Much to his distress. He banished me to another part of the house until he was finished.

Spent the day baking, despite the heat. A friend is taking her 17 yr old daughter for brain surgery week after next. Bringing cookies to her doesn't begin to be enough, but it is something.

I keep forgetting to remark on our backyard fauna. A couple of Sundays ago we had a personal record for backyard species spotted at once - chickadee, downy woodpecker, hairy woodpecker, sparrows, goldfinch, house finch, blue jay, robin, cardinal and squirrel. All within a 10 minute span. Our birdbath is popular. We often see nuthatches and juncos, but they didn't make an appearance that day. I also imagine that we had several sparrow varieties, but we were not ambitious enough to look them up. This afternoon we sat and watched a group of about 8 chickadees hunting for bugs in the leaves and taking turns visiting the peanut feeder and birdbath. Once in a while the nuthatch would swoop in and scold them and they would flutter up and wait for him to take his turn.

photos

Went last night to a talk by Lynn Redgrave. Her daughter documented Lynn's breast cancer treatment through photographs. Since breast cancer has touched so many people in my life, I decided that it would be interesting to go. The photos are on display at the MN Center for Photography. I was blown away. Some photos are accompanied by a bit of a journal entry about that day and some are on their own. I don't often find an exhibit that resonates with me quite like this and I am so glad I went.

tagged and shook hands

The art mobile for the art center where I work got some extra decoration by a group of delinquents with a can of spray paint last week. Big squiggles and stars where really none were necessary. It just makes me sad, my poor truck. I went out to repaint Friday to try and cover up the mess and as I was going around doing touch ups, since I was there with the paint, I discovered that the hoodlums also felt it necessary to shoot the windshield 7 times.

Sigh.

In happier news, we went to see the musical 1776 this weekend with a friend. He knew a cast member and so we waited around at the stage door and I got to meet Gaston. That is Gaston as in "Beauty and the Beast" and "I use antlers in all of my decorating" Gaston. His name is really Richard, he is super nice, and he did the voice in the movie. Cool huh? 1776 was a good production of a sort of boring musical, in my opinion. It just isn't one of my favorites. But it was fun to see and go to the new Guthrie Theater.

A week in review...

Got a new...
essay-4 (45k image)
...which inspired me to knit...

...(mine on the end, and then some in various states of knit/fulled/finished for my etsy shop and an art show in august) I looked on etsy and couldn't find what I wanted, so you know what had to be done.

Then, my friend Jen came back from a jealousy-inducing trip to Columbia South America and brought me...

...which I have been wearing alternately this week while I have been helping teach 9 girls how to make pajama pants, untangling 5 inkle looms, threading more needles than I can count, tying many knots with not enough thread left over, assisting with a fleet of robot monster creatures. In my "spare time" I did an experiment with some koolaid dyed...

...to get ready for another class and finally a few...

(walrus, lobster, turtle, cardinal, dinosaur, penguin)
... needle felted to work out a little tension and start getting ahead for holiday shows - I think these will be great ornaments. They will all get bead eyes at some point. And here's what I started last night but got too sleepy to finish...

so lovely

WaterLily-1649 (107k image)
Our pond and our second waterlily bloom. They only last for a few days and we missed a photo of the first one. Happily the sunshine cooperated with us this morning and we got this lovely shot. I adore the lily pads. The fish decided not to make an appearance in this picture, but they were very funny to watch when the edge of the sprinkler hit their pond. They were very curious about all of the droplets of water and kept coming up to investigate.

my kingdom for...

...a handful of safety pins. Sigh. I know I have some. They are in a little tupperware, which I can't find. I am happy I live within walking distance of a shopping center. Maybe I will get an iced tea on my way. Safety pins are necessary to the next step in a birthday present I am making for a niece, which really needs to get finished this weekend if it is going to get in the mail on time.

vacation

Just a quick hi to the blog. I have been on vacation. I went absolutely nowhere exciting. I stayed home and cleaned the kitchen. Seriously. It has been lovely. Lots of reading in the backyard, iced tea and dabbling in projects. Nothing finished enough to even take a snapshot of. I have so needed the break. Maybe tomorrow I will photo a few bits and pieces, but meanwhile, I am back to the book...
