Pre-Science
i picked up a copy of "Pride and Prescience" by Carrie Bebris when i cruised through the bookstore on my way to lunch.
"Pride and Prescience
Or
A Truth Universally Acknowledged
Mr. & Mrs. Darcy, the joyous newlyweds from Pride and Prejudice, have not even left for their honeymoon when they find themselves embroiled in a mystery involving one of their wedding guests. The lovely Caroline Bingley is engaged to marry a rich and charismatic American. Unfortunately this windswept courtship is marred by many strange events such as nocturnal wanderings, spooked horses, carriage accidents, and atypical incidents of mortal consequence. Soon the whole Bingley family seems the target of a sinister plot, with only the Darcys recognizing the danger ."
i had read that it was written in a very similar style to that of georgette heyer, who is the very first historical fiction author i read. since she is a favorite, i had to try this out.
the nice (but dimwitted) lady at the cash register made lots of small talk as she was helping me. " ooooooh. pride and pre - science. that sounds very complicated. or wait... i think i know this book. i think i read it. or maybe that was the one that they made a movie about didn't they? it was really good. it's by that famous author, right. she wrote all those other books...." and so on. it was delightful.
despite the dippy sales lady, i am enjoying the book very much. i am a fan of anything austen or that era, so having new things to read is very fun. alas, i must finish this entry and go to bed. 2 classes to teach tomorrow and i should have gone to sleep an hour ago.

chocolate covered aliens
not much blogging this week because i am too tired. i am teaching 2 classes as well as trying to get some of my "regular" work done. it is fun and these are things that i was signed on for before i took the new job so i have been looking forward to them.
this year we decided to make finger puppets with a neighborhood group that comes to visit us every year. todays group of girls made their puppets and then did shows for each other for the last 1/2 hr of class. my very favorite shows were "chocolate covered aliens" and "chocolate covered aliens 2". aliens shrink if you dip them in chocolate and then you can squash them. i bet you didn't know that.
