The sun is finally shining...

smile We woke up this morning to sunny skies and no wind. What a treat! It has rained here every day for weeks. We are off to see if there are any of the greenhouses open so we can get some flowers planted before it starts to rain again!

We drove up to Luck to pick up my stuff from the art show last night - through another torrential downpour, though no tornado or bees this time.

I did not get the job...

I just heard from the TCM that they have offered the Coordinator job to someone else. I felt like it was sort of a long shot that I would get it, so I am not completely surprised. They have hired someone with a lot more management experience than I have. I talked for a while with Peggy, the retiring coord and I think she was rooting for me, but is relieved that I didn't get it. Evidently there is a lot of behind the scenes nonsense involved (paperwork & politics) and she is happy to not have me dealing with that. I think the job made her crazy, so it is probably all for the best.

So, now it is time to get my online store of stuff up and running and get some things over to Crafty Planet (see my links) for consignment and make all kinds of plans for me & Rachel for summer projects!

Groucho glasses...

images-1 (4k image)So, I am driving to one of my favorite fabric shops this morning to get a few things and as I turn in to the shopping center and make my way past Target, I see him... A large 40-something age gentleman carefully loading things from a shopping cart into the trunk of his car, dressed in a light blue polo shirt, dark pants and GROUCHO GLASSES. Big nose, fuzzy eyebrows and everything. Hmmmmmm......

I think it went well...

It's hard to tell with these things but I feel like the interview went great. I had a few answers that I could tell that they were very pleased with & they didn't ask me anything that I couldn't answer. I am feeling pretty good about the whole things. I don't know why I was so worked up about it earlier - probably because I would really like the job. It's such a great opportunity. I should know something by Mon or Tues.

I am off to pack my stuff for the show in Luck, WI. Setting the alarm for 6:00 am. Yaaaaaaawwwwwn.

In about 2 hrs...

In about 2 hours I have a job interview for the Textile Mobile Coordinator position. I am sort of nervous for this interview. I just got email from our current Coord that said there are 6 candidates being interviewed.... At this point, I don't know any of the others. I will let you know how it goes.

My friend the "Doc"...

I spent this morning at my friend Danielle's PhD dissertation defense. She passed with flying colors and is now officially Dr. Danielle. HIP HIP HOORAY!

Blue...

Andy took a great picture of our columbine this weekend. This plant has about 20 flowers on it right now. It is really pretty. We did a lot of cleaning up in the yard this weekend - weeding and mulching, planted a new shrub and some flowers.

We also had bit of sad news. Our puppy friend Caela, the great dane, passed away this weekend. She was a sweet girl and we will miss her. In honor of Caela, my books of the week are some of my favorite dog books....

I need a book suggestion...

I just finished reading "The Thief Lord" and I need a new book. "The Thief Lord" was so-so. It reminded me a lot of Oliver Twist, which I am not terribly fond of. I started reading one of a lengthy series of mysteries by Elizabeth George that a friend gave me, but it is not grabbing me. I will try again at some point since I have about 15 of these books and I think they have potential, but they just aren't what I am in the mood for right now....

Suggestions?

Is it still only Tuesday???

confused What a week... A good friend of mine was "let go" from her job today for what seems like no good reason. I am really sad for her and for me too because this means that I probably won't get to work with her any more. Yuck.

And I haven't heard anything about the job I applied for at the TCM....

Quite a drive...

bumblebee (15k image)
Danielle and I went to Taylors Falls yesterday afternoon to pick up my stuff from the show. The sky started to get dark on our way up and we could see it was going to thunderstorm, but happily it waited for the show to be over and everyone to get packed up. We got my stuff loaded into the car along with a couple of birdhouses for Danielle and started back home. This is where the story starts to get good... First, there was suddenly a bee on the inside of the windshield. Quick pull over and shoo it out with Danielle's hat. We drive along for another little ways and there is another bee buzzing around in the car. Quick try to pull over and shoo him out, but this little bugger decided to sting Danielle first. So we drive another little bit and then pull over to grab some ice for the bee sting. While Danielle is getting ice, I realize that the bees are in the birdhouse. I pull apart a concert program and stuff the holes full of paper. No more bees! We get back on the road and go back to watching the lightning of the approaching thunderstorm. The sky starts to get a really funny shade of green and the clouds get thicker and darker. The lighting is spectacular. The phone rings as the downpour starts but we ignore it because it is in the back of the car somewhere. The phone rings again as it starts to hail and we are pulling off the road for the fourth time....

A day at Taylors Falls

I am on my way up to Taylors Falls to the Angelwoods Garden & Art Show. It is supposed to be nice weather for once. We seem to always freeze on show weekends there. Fingers crossed for sunny days!!

I have two new items at the show this time - kids soft books and "nibblers" finger puppets. I am interested to see how those do. Nibblers are little fleece puppets that are basically little mouths - you work them with a finger and a thumb. I'll have to post a picture...

A whole day without costumes

I hardly knew what to do today. No costumes to worry about. Wow.

I did spend half of the day in front of the sewing machine/computer today though, getting ready for my art show/sale coming up this weekend. I need to make some more puppets because I always run out of the popular animals - lions, dogs, ducks. But all in all, pretty low stress. Happy Me!

I turned in an application on Saturday for the Coordinator position of the Textile Mobile program that I work for. Our current Coord has done an amazing job but I think she really wants to go back to being retired. I have no idea what my chances are, but I am thinking positive thoughts. It was a tough decision to turn in the resume, but I am hoping it all works out well.

My final "Quilting for Schnauzers" class...

quilt1 (61k image)In March, I taught a quilting class to a group of 10-13 yr old girls as part of an afterschool program. I started referring to the class as "Quilting for Schnauzers" because my group reminded me of a pack of puppies. They yapped, nipped, squabbled, snatched and had about a 30 second attention span. They did manage to make a really great quilt though. Here is a picture of the finished top before we did the binding and backing. We had our final get together and show and tell on Saturday.
