Drum Roll Please...

Please visit the first installment of pictures from dress rehearsal of Little Women. There are a few characters I need better shots of- it is tough to get nice sharp pictures with low light. I am planning to take a bunch more tomorrow. For now, these are the best of the best.

The guys in the show were so enamoured of their costumes that they offered to buy them from me about 3 times. Now they are lobbying for me to rent the costumes to them for prom next year.

I was amazed watching the show. I am really proud of these costumes. I think they are easily some of the best I have done.

Coming very very soon...

First dress rehearsal is tonight and so I should have some pictures to post by late this evening. I am going to try and take a ton of them. I am nearly done with costumes - a few buttons and things to go. whew! 2 1/2 hrs to go and then it's mostly out of my hands.

I taught an embroidery/applique class this morning to 2 groups of 6th graders. It was a blast! They made patches from squares of wool felt that they embellished with things that symbolized them. Must have been a very loving group, I saw lots and lots of hearts. wink This is part of a unit that they are doing about "who I am and where I am from". The only downside of the class was that I had bad directions to the school and I was about 10 min late getting there. ARRGH. Happily, my friend Jen rescued me (though she doesn't know it!) When we talked the other day, she brainstormed an alternate route to get there and avoid downtown. When I realized that my "official" directions were missing a crucial turn or interchange somewhere, I remembered her advice, bailed off the highway I was on and headed for one of the roads she mentioned. Happily, everything worked out great. The class was doing some journal writing at the beginning of class and I showed up just as they were ready to move on to my stuff.

Sunday, April 25th

I made a list...

...make 4 petticoats, 2 vests, alter a bodice, alter some sleeves, find another shirt, hem 2 skirts, fix some elastic, finish a hat, make 3 capes and a bonnet... AND THEN I'M DONE! I think. I probably have forgotten something. I think I am going to go make a couple of petticoats now, since they are pretty mindless. I need a DVD player in the sewing room.

I also went to the greenhouses today. I got some yellow and orange pansies and snapdragons to put in a pot somewhere. I got a dark red yarrow (variety "Summerwine") and a yellow/orange rudebeckia or black-eyed susan ("Prairie Sun"). We have made a vow to plant more perennials this year.

New Book of the Week...

I wanted to get the book of the week and my currently reading list in the archive, so I am writing a quick post about them. I just finished reading "The Last Light of the Sun" by Guy Gavriel Kay. Great book. This is one of my favorite authors. (Andy's too). The previous book of the week was "Once upon a Marigold" by Jean Ferris. Everyone should read this book! Part Comedy. Part Love Story. Part Everything but the Kitchen Sink" (quote from cover).

13 going on 30....

Since Andy is gone and I have been working waaaaay too much lately, I decided to take a night off and have a girly night. I painted my toenails (plum with pink rhinestone butterflies!), took myself out for chinese and went to see "13 going on 30". I can't remember when I have had so much fun! I LOVED the movie! I have recently become a huge Jennifer Garner fan - Andy and I got the first season of Alias on DVD because after I rented one disc on a whim, we were hooked. I laughed out loud at a bunch of the fabulous music and dance sequences, while the teenage girls next to me looked lost. razz The clothes, the hair....this is a movie for us 80's girls! Andy Serkis (that's right, Gollum!) is also a riot as the editor of a fashion magazine. I had no idea he was in this and he was marvelous!1330 (7k image)

Just the girls and the quest for red boots...

Andy is off to San Jose for the week, so it's just me and Lucy. He's going backpacking for the next 3 days with Jeff (his brother), Kelli and James (5 mo old nephew). That should be quite the adventure. After that he goes to Adobe's annual Tech Summit for the rest of the week. He is most looking forward to CA's fresh fruit. He always eats well on these trips.

Today I am off on "The Quest for Red Boots". We need a pair of red boots for Little Women. It is amazing how difficult things like that are to find when you need them. The funny thing is that this is the second show I have had to track down red boots for. We also needed a pair for Footloose. Odd.

Trivia Contest

trivia2004 (79k image)andy reminded me that i should say something about our trivia contest last weekend. our team "freshly squeezed" placed 21st! andy and i didn't play as actively this year as we have in previous contests - it is hard as a remote team to help out a lot. it was still a lot of fun. thanks to all who gave us suggestions about the trivia pictures.

Photos for Little Women

littlewomen (31k image)
I took this photo this afternoon at rehearsal for Little Women. For those who haven't heard, I am costuming Little Women for Forest Lake Highschool. We open in 2 weeks. They wanted a photo for the program and so I "photoshopped" this one to look old-fashioned for them. I will post more pictures later. I plan to take tons at dress rehearsal. Costumes are going pretty well, though I am getting a little tired of working on them. Only 3 more to finish.... confused

A Real New Entry

cardinal (11k image)

Here's a picture of a cardinal we saw on our walk yesterday morning. I wanted to try putting a photo in here to see if it works.

There is a huge noisy thunderstorm going on right now and I think I had better turn of the computer before the power goes out or something like that.
