another week

Another week of blankness on the blog. Sigh. Someday I will get less busy again. I had several fun classes to teach this week with kumihimo. Kumihimo is a japanese 8 stranded braid. Very cool stuff and kids think it works like magic. It is always fun to have an excuse to do a little magic.

I had a doctor's appt last week and was once again reminded how I love knitting in public. This is not a new phenomenon. I can sit down in a random public place and no one will even really make eye contact with me and moms will sometimes look at me funny if I smile and wave at their little kids. But this all changes if you have knitting needles in your hands. Suddenly the lady across from me in the waiting room has struck up a conversation (she and her daughter took a knitting class once but decided they liked crochet better) and little kids come over to watch what I am doing and see if they can feel the soft yarn. In the summer time, I often bring a project to Andy's band concerts and I tease him that he is really accompanying my "textile performance art" with his music. You should see the crowd a small weaving loom gathers.

finds and witticisms

scottish crossbill shirt from Circular Accessories Just got it today. So cute.

Watched this movie last night. Pretty fun. I love Oscar Wilde for his pithy remarks. This one has a great line - which I turned in to a bumper sticker for etsy's bumper sticker contest. I am sure I won't win, but I think it is amusing.

oh the nostalgia

Picked this up while wandering through Target. When I glanced at the list of songs and started to smile, I had to put it in my basket. I know all of the words to the Gambler. Do you?
(Andy will hate it.)

long ago promised

1. On the same day we dyed a whole bunch of wool roving (see below) we also experimented with yarn. Here are three balls that I created. The blue and peach colored ones were dip dyed. The rainbow one was painted.

2. Here's a ball of silk/wool sport weight yarn. This one just shimmers. This was "bucket dyed". I dropped it in a bucket and dumped colors over it. Resting on top of the ball is my project from silversmithing class. (I got Andy a silversmithing class for Christmas and signed myself up too) It is not quite finished, I need to do a little more polishing.(more detailed pix then)

3. We drove to Rapid City over last weekend and so lots of car time means lots of knitting time. This one is a little bit of a spolier because these will be felted baby shoes for my friend Maggie, who might be making an appearance any day. She is already making her mom a little bit crazy so I decided maybe a sneak peak would make her smile. (Hi Amy!)

4. Finally, I stopped in a neighborhood vintage clothing store after my annual doctor's appointment and found these little charmers. I told the girl to pull them out and I didn't care how much they were. (A total bargain at $8!) I think I will put new earring wires on them as these ones are a little questionable.

not many projects to blog

Still trying to catch up from being sick. Amazing what losing 5 days will do. I am just about 100% better finally.

I had a great birthday last week. I got some marvelous things from my family, who shopped at etsy.

hiatus

greetings, blog! i am back from a rather unscheduled hiatus - a nasty awful cold. maybe the flu, i don't know. sometime on weds i developed a fever which stuck around pretty much until saturday. i slept more hours than i usually get in a week, i have had no voice at all for 2 days, a nasty cough and all in all i just feel a bit on the wilted side. gatorade & snow slushies are my new best friends. (we evidently got a foot or so of snow during that part where i was semiconscious). i graduated today to attempting to leave the house and run a few errands (exhausting) and i think i may only go in to work long enough to grab some stuff and come home again tomorrow. whew.
