Textile Word of the Week: Ikat - a style of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye on either the warp or weft before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design. A Double Ikat is when both the warp and the weft are tie-dyed before weaving.

04/23/2007: "coffee & knitting"

I have joined a knitters coffee swap! I send a package of coffee and knitting related goodies to my partner and I get one back. Fun huh? I am supposed to help my swap-sister out by answering a few questions and I thought it would be fun to share...

1. Whole bean or ground?
Either. Have a grinder and make coffee in a french press.

2. Fully-loaded or decaf?
Either. Both.

3. Regular or flavored?
I don't like super dark roasts and I prefer flavors that don't involve fruit. Raspberry does not belong with my coffee. Almost anything else is great.

4. How do you drink your coffee?
Hot or iced. Lots of milk, no sweet. Lattes and cafe au lait are my favorite.

5. Favorite coffee ever?
A flavor called "Highlander Grogg" - a blend of amaretto and butterscotch (i think).

6. Are you fussy about your coffee or will any old bean do?
Has to be fresh. Otherwise I am not too picky.

7. Favorite treats to have with your coffee?
Shortbread, graham crackers, a bit of good dark chocolate. I am not a huge sweet tooth, so I like treats that are just a hint sweet rather than totally sugary.

8. Anything else about your coffee preferences?
That about covers it.

9. Yarn/fiber you love?
Natural fibers, especially interesting ones like soy silk, bamboo etc. Blends of natural fibers with acrylic etc are also good.

10. Yarn/fiber you hate?
Really fuzzy/fluffy stuff. Not a fan of angora. I don't really like bulky weight.

11. What's on your needles?
Going-to-be-Felted bowl with a lid. Cascade 220 (my favorite for felting) in bright daffodil yellow.

12. Favorite colors?
Green. Especially warm earthy olive/lime shades. Purple, brown, blue. I don't like red or pastels.

13. Allergies?
Green peppers, but somehow I don't think that will be relevant to this swap.

14. Anything you really love, really don't like, or just need to get off your chest?
Hmmmm.....nothing jumps out at me now.
