05/29/2006: "anniversary iris"

adobe (31k image)
my folks gave us a gift certificate for iris for our anniversary, which we finally ordered, planted and are enjoying the blooms this spring. this one is called "adobe rose" and just opened a day or two ago. the roses below are from two little sticks that my mom trimmed off her rose bush and put in a pot. from that meager start, it is probably now 2 1/2 ft in diameter and send up about 5 new shoots this year. thriving! and finally another iris from the bunch. the pic is a little blurry because the wind has picked up, but this one is called "batik". i figure between the iris that were here when we moved in (pink and yellow), the ones from danielle's neighbor (lavendar), the miniatures that i put in two summers ago (deep purple) and the lovely new ones from last summer we have had about 200 iris blooms in the yard in the past few weeks.

I'm hoping that you still have iris to admire next weekend as they are my favs and pots just won't do them justice.....

I love Adobe rose (how fitting) and Batik is one I need. My iris are looking real nice too. Grandma Cora's that came from the farmhouse, which are at least 50 years old, possibly much older should open in a day or so. I am so pleased that they survived the trip from NY, much less having flowers for me already!
