04/09/2006: "the entire day"

yesterday, we spent the day in the car. it was really only 4 hours but it felt like the entire day. we spent part of the weekend in des moines, seeing a show directed by a friend of ours. we like to go ad see his plays when we can. the nice part of the drive was listening to an odd but good book on tape - sabriel by garth nix - and stopping at a state park and letting the dog run and run.

today, we spent the entire day doing our taxes. that was it. whole day and one thing to show for it. we do ours every year and it always seems to be that no matter how organized we are (which is not very) we spend half the day looking for one certain pay stub or statement to check a number. we are a little obsessive about checking numbers because we have several times had forms sent to us with incorrect amounts on them and miscalculations. highly irritating errors which involve not enough withholding and us having to send big checks to our friends at the IRS. we finally called it quits at 5 and decided to print and assemble everything another night. sheesh.
