Bahamas 2005, part 1.

Steve & Arah's tropical escape from Siberia (Saint Paul).

Day 1: A walk around Nassau reveals...a tiled building. Who knew?
Decay and beauty, together again.
Perpetual construction
One of many churches...
...most had enchanting gardens.
Someone's yard: there's very little topsoil above the coral, anywhere.
The first of many Minnesota houseplant sightings.
A young Queen Vic in the town square.
A decapitated someone, in "storage" on the library (former jail) verandah.
The view of the harbor from our hotel door-with a few "Lego"-like cruiseships.
The esplanade/Junkanoo beach. Here, we got engaged.
Day 2: a jet-boat trip to Saddleback Cay.
Welcome to Gilligan's Island,
The walk up to food, drinks,....
...and a hidden beach.
The sand felt like pie-crust dough.
Tiny beauty...
...subtle beauty....
...vibrant color...
...every color of blue.
Some fascinating stratification in the coral.
Stuff grows here.
Steve braved the rather chilly water.
We walked further to a more hidden cove...
...with very shallow & warm water.
On the way back from some snorkeling, the capt. dropped us off on a sand bar.
Lunch.
Lunch included barbecued chicken and tropical drinks.
We fed the scraps to the sharks.
And enjoyed it.
Some of the ubiquitous bouganvilliea (sp?).
Day 3: At Ardastra Gardens/Zoo, we got to feed parrots.
The zoo had a very enchanted (overgrown) garden feel to it.
More fascinating flora.
We missed the 10am March of the Flamingos. Which was fine.
The sidewalk seemed to have had a rough time of things, recently...
...as had this Norse ship. The owner had neglected to seal the hull properly.
Day 4: we visited Blue Lagoon Island...
...where Annette set us up with an awesome Dolphin Encounter.
We got to dance with, hug, kiss, and pet a dolphin named Soca.
Afterwards we found a nice little beach & lazed for a couple hours.
That is the actual Gilligan's Island, off in the distance.
