Tue - August 29, 2006Technology Revolution (aka Macs Rule)"Loving would be easy if your colours were like my
dream,
red gold and green, red gold and green." Culture Club, "Karma Chameleon" ![]() Tim spotted a pink iBook on campus the other day and it had us completely baffled... Didn't Apple phase out of the color thing and stick with white and silver? They did, but the ingenious people at ColorwarePC are cashing in on folks willing to pay for a little custom personality. I'm liking the one above (in Powder) but Tim thinks the crimson and white Candy Apple version would suit his purposes. Of course, neither of us would actually spend $400 to send in a machine we already own. But perhaps next time I'm up for a new one... Pussy willow that smiled on my sleeve..." ~REM, "Dark Globe" 1.) My boss recently went to Kenya and his wife
picked up this purse made of bottlecaps for me. She probably didn't know this,
but I did some research and the caps are all from a lager called "Tusker"--the
first beer in East Africa which was apparently named after the elephant that
killed one of the founders... And now it's a killer
purse!
2.) At a swap meet in Maui I discovered this bracelet made of M'gumbo, or Hawaiian pussy willows. It was strung by hand with fresh-water pearls in the coastal town called Lahaina, where we watched a parade celebrating the Festival of Canoes. Who doesn't want something soft and fuzzy wrapped round their wrist? It's almost like having a portable pet. 3.) Found this vintage phone at a yard sale for $4, and my friend's handy dad added new wires and a bell so I could actually use it. The ring is so hilarious that I laugh every time someone calls me. The sound is amazingly clear and I'd forgotten how fun it is to dial so slowly and kerplunk the handset back down on the little clear hang-up buttons. Plus I love that it has someone's old number on it. Yes, I know I'm easily amused. 4.) Scored this gumball machine at a flea market for $10--and it was filled with marbles. Woohoo! 5.) Bargain of the goth-century: knee-high silver NaNa boots on clearance at Hot Topic for $10 bucks. I bought them along with some Nightmare Before Christmas picture-disc vinyl and a James Dean tee. Old-school punks may think the store is the Wal-mart of goth fashion, but I say I'd rather have my malls filled with that than Gap for Tweens. Hell, if we'd had one when I was in junior high I would've actually cracked a smile. So now I'm a 30-year old with a frequent buyers card that has little tombstones that get stamped with a tiny skull every time I make a purchase. And it makes me smile. me
Without my hair Welcome to my open stare I got nothing to hide no more Why disguise what isn't there" ~Ani DiFranco, "Itch" This isn't breaking news by any means, but I just
wanted to applaud Natalie Portman for shaving her
head.
![]() Granted, unlike Sinead O'Connor, Ani DiFranco, Erykah Badu, Joan Jett, and Skin from Skunk Anansie, Portman did it for a film role--but heck, I even mustered respect for Demi Moore briefly after GI Jane. I personally think it's sexy, but even though it seems we've seen it all fashion-wise, it still takes real guts for a woman to shave her head.... I should know. This was me circa 1997: ![]() Posted at 11:15 PM | Fri - March 18, 2005Betcha $50 I Can Tell Ya Where You Got Yer Shoes..."Shoes to Vie for, Shoes to Die

~John Fluevog ![]() Just had to share my latest purchase with the world... Went to a 4-day clearance sale on my lunch hour and found these double-band Donald J. Pliner heels "Made in the Mountains of Italy" for a mere $50--down from $200! Only mine are...get this--ORANGE! I showed a pal at work all excitedly but when I told her how much I spent she said I was on a different "level" than she was. Well I would pay a lot more for shoes from my favorite designer, John Fluevog... In fact, here's a pic of my all-time favorite pair, for your aesthetic pleasure: ![]() [Answer to title riddle: On your feet!] Posted at 10:21 PM | Wed - January 26, 2005Talk About Recycling"It seems our lives have taken on a different kind

Now that you have given me the perfect gift" ~Annie Lennox, "The Gift" ![]() So my friend Sara just got back from a cruise and brought me what could easily be the strangest gift I have ever received. And that's saying a lot because my grandmother's gifts generally border on outlandish. As you can see from the above photograph, they are earrings. Seem innocuous enough. They came from Venezuela. Okay, but what are they made of? Thin slices of some exotic orange wood? Nope. Cheesy potato chips? Guess again. Stumped? So was I. In actuality, they are fish scales... dyed orange for fashion's sake (!) Thankfully, they don't carry any sort of lingering fishy scent. But they will provide a unique ice-breaker for any parties I'm invited to in the near future. Leave it to Sara to help me out that way. Love you, Sara! Posted at 08:42 PM | |
