10.18.01- Here's a first test of my Nikon 8000 vs. the Heidelberg Tango at work. Scan was from a 6x7 HP5+ negative, both scanned at 4000 dpi with no sharpening. The Tango scan was just taped to the drum with no overlay, not fluid mounted. Scans and screenshots are from a Mac and will be a little dark on a PC but I think you can get the idea.
10.19.01- At the request of several people, I've done a test with an oil mounted 6x7 chrome on the Tango vs. the Nikon. The image is not mine, so I blurred the face in the overview images, but you can get the idea of what section of the negative is shown in the details. I also scanned the chrome just taped to the drum like I did yesterday so that you can see oil vs. dry mounting.
10.20.01- I made my first prints from the Nikon Scans and was quite impressed. Then I did an experiment and was impressed enough that I thought you guys should see for yourselves. I resized (without resampling) my first scan to 30", which would make it a 30"x38" image at about 285dpi. Then I took a 12x18 section and printed it out. I think it's pretty impressive; it shows the limitations of HP5, and even of the Mamiya 7 handheld, but the scanner is up to the task. The links below will take you the overview of what area I cropped from the 30"x38", and then to the JPEG of the crop itself. I don't have ftp space, so you'll have to save it out of your web browser and then export it from Photoshop.
