Even an institution such as law enforcement- with a very serious charge of "serving and protecting" the public- is staffed by people. And ultimately, people are human beings and certainly capable of erring with bad decisions and mistakes.
Like most established institutions, face saving/spin doctoring/stonewalling is part and parcel of public relations.
Think back to the outlandish charge of a Minnesotan kid who went as fast as some MotoGP prototype racebikes on his essentially stock Honda RC-51. To this day, that department maintains the 205 mph speeding ticket was timed properly.
Unfortunately, with this incident, there was no favorable outcome. |
