Our mission: penetration and extraction
We plan to travel to Las Vegas to pick up the Karmann Ghia on the second week of September. We leave either the evening of the 8th or the (early) morning of the 9th.
We’ll be picking up a car dolly trailer from Anna’s uncle Albert in Paisley. We’ll need to drive a vehicle with a trailer hitch - that’s either Anna’s father’s Ford Explorer or Anna’s mother’s Astro van. The van looks like the favorite - it’s easier to get and has an enormous towing capacity.
I want to get a tow bar too - there’s a $50 one from CIP that looks nice (no welding or bolting, it just clips under the car). We’ll need it for tugging the Ghia around town before it’s drivable again, plus we can use it on the way back after we drop off the dolly at Albert’s.
We’re booked at Circus Circus for $30/night - pretty good rates. We’ll have two or three days in Sin City before we have to head home.
There’s a wild card - the seller is putting a mostly working engine into the Ghia. Apparently one of the spark plug holes is cross-threaded badly enough that it won’t hold a plug, so it won’t run very well. However, there’s a chance that we’ll be able to fix it in Vegas and then drive it home. We’ll see.
