Dear friends of the Coning-Madsen family,

On Wednesday, 8th of September, we - that is three child-minders of the Uni-Krabbelstube, the daycare where Karl has been looked after for 1 1/2 years - visited Karl, Anna and Else in Vogtareuth in order to see for ourselves Karl's progress and to say goodbye. Anna asked us to describe our impressions for her website.

We wondered, of course, above all how Karl was because it have been six weeks since we last saw him. Anna already welcomed us in the corridor and told us about Karl's progress. However, she already warned us that Karl would certainly cry in between times for various reasons and that we should not worry ourselves about that. Even the very first sight showed us that Karl was much better than six weeks ago. He was awake, looked at us with both eyes and last but not least - he has hair again. We are convinced that he recognized us and was happy about our visit because he smiled a lot, he even laughed and he, contrary to Anna's prognosis, did not cry! His eye movements already are coordinated well and he is able to hold his head much, much better. He made some sounds and also tried to speak, altough still very softly and with a very high voice. We are, however, convinced that he soon will be able to speak. He definitely understands everything that is going on around him and he also has not forgotten the German language - he certainly understood us!

Karl's sister Else is truely a sunshine and it is wonderful to watch how she plays with Karl. She crawls towards him and smiles at him and Karl smiles back! It's a pity that she won't come to our Krabbelstube.

Before we left we were allowed to really say goodbye to Karl and to hold him in our arms. It was a most wonderful feeling that this was possible again.

Our visit had a second intention, namely to hand over a voucher to Anna from our donations campaign for her family. We were very pleased to be able to hand over to her this voucher for 7140 (in the meantime there are even 8300 in the donations account)!

We are glad that we got to know Anna and her family because they are a very special family. We admire how Anna accepts her fate, how strong she is, how much love she has for her children, how glad she is about every single progress Karl makes and how happy she can be in spite of everything. We wish Karl, Anna and Else and also Anna's parents all the best and hope so much that Karl will get well again! It would be wonderful if we met again some day, in Germany or in America.

With kindest regards to all,
Petra Straßberger, Saniye Karabulut and Rosi Stempfhuber
