Der KOPF dreht sich um!!! |

Dear all,
More good news. Yesterday the little boy started grabbing fingers. A surefire way to get him to react is to mention to him in the same breath the name Ann Pederson, who is a colleague of mine at Augustana College, and pineapple pizza. Ann and Karl fell in love with each other when I interviewed there last November, and when Bill and Karl flew back a couple of months ago to find our family a house, the romance started all over again. Both adore pineapple pizza, and as a sign of her affection, Ann has promised Karl a life-long supply!
But he hasn't forgotten where his true heart ought to lie--with his mother. About 5:00 p.m. yesterday, I whispered into his ear, "Karl, I love you soooooo much." And he turned his head. Fortunately, Ralf (our doctor) even saw it, so I knew it wasn't a mama's imaginings! This is, of course, only good news.
He does have, however, a sinus infection, a bladder infection, and most probably pneumonia, all from lying down for so long. That could make it hard for him to breathe were he to wake up, and so they will be quite careful with the process until it all clears up. However, they are still planning to keep weaning him, and so I am going to rush to the hospital now to get more news. I told our bishop, Andrea DeGroot-Nesdahl, that in the States we cross our fingers for luck, in Germany they press down their thumbs, and to do all that while I am trying to make the sign of the cross, well, it ain't easy.
I thank you again for your prayers and support. I will keep you posted as more news comes.
God bless each of you!
Anna
