Nothing is ruled out

Dear all,

Well, these were the words of the doctor yesterday. Nothing is ruled out, "Nichts ist ausgeschlossen." Although this word can, in theory, go either way, I am choosing to read words of hope into it. Karl can get better.

He has sort of reached a plateau in the last few days, though is still awake and alert for much of the day. I am concerned that we need to attend not only to his brain damage, but rather also to his spirits. He has been in intensive care for 5 weeks now, and it looks like it will be another week, only because of this bacteria which mandates that he remain isolated. I told his doctor that that has to be depressing, and found out that depression is indeed another facet of life on the intensive care unit. So I ask for your prayers that Karl see joy where there is joy, and that this sustain him until we get to rehab. In the meantime, we open presents, which is a highlight for him, and I take him out for walks as often as possible. It think that helps a bit.

Rehab could begin as early as next Friday, the first day that Karl could theoretically be germ-free. I can't wait for this next level of care, for it is now the most critical.

My dear cousin Kris is here, which is good for so many reasons, not least of all that Dad has joined the ranks of the sick. It's a nasty summer cold that mows just about everybody in its tracks. Please pray for their returned health as well!

Thank you all for your continued prayers and love sent this way! God bless you all.

Anna
