Memorials for Bill

(Continued from July 14, No. 2)

2. Bill would have been shattered by Karl's injuries, and awed by the medicine that is treating him. Our grief at this entire situation has been eased somewhat by the tenderness shown to us by the hospital staff here, who, despite not being prepared for a case such as ours (sudden single parent of a sick small boy and nursing little girl), have allowed us to "move in" to hold vigil by Karl's bedside. It has become clear to me the peculiar and poignant demands of children's health care. To this end, I have established a memorial with the Sioux Valley Foundation, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They are in the process of building a Children's Hospital, an endeavor that is yet three years out from groundbreaking. This facility will enable caregivers to attend to the unique medical, emotional, and logistical demands of children's heath care. Should this designation interest you, please donate to the "Bill Coning Memorial Fund for Sanford Children's Hospital, c/o Sioux Valley Foundation, 1305 W. 18th Street, SD, 57117-5039."

3. Last, in every aspect of his life, Bill sought to intersect faith and life. He did this not least of all through his political convictions and activity. In this critical election year, Bill was chomping at the bit to return to the States to support John Kerry, a candidate whose political views reflected Bill's, views which were informed by Bill's understanding of the gospel. Therefore, I have established a memorial fund through the John Kerry for President, Inc.. Should you find Kerry's positions echoing not only Bill's beliefs, but yours as well, please fill out the form available at the "July 14, No. 2 Attachment" link above and send the form and donation to Andrew McLaughlin,1440 Broadway, 21st Floor, New York, NY 10018.

I thank you for the love which stands behind the frequent queries about memorials, and for your desire to let Bill live on through your financial gifts reflective of his spirit.

In peace,

Anna
