Burma, finally!

RANGOON

Finally, after having it on my list of things to do for 15 years, I made it to Burma (MYANMAR).

My first day in Rangoon (Yangon) and I walk around the down town area. This place is amazing! I just love the mix of architecture: traditional, colonial, post colonial and golden cheddis everywhere.

Most capital cities in Asia have "developed" but Rangoon, due to it's isolation, is an anachronism. It has remained stuck somewhere between the '40s and '70s. You won't find Coca Cola signs, as a matter of fact you will find very little advertising to begin with. No MacDonalds, no KFC, no Starbucks. And, no pollution! Its probably the "greenest" city I've ever been in. When looking down from a high rise, all you see is a green canopy of trees vying for sunlight with the odd building prodruding here and there.
