SONGKRAN!

The people of Thailand celebrate the coming of their New Year by splashing water or rubbing chalk on everyone and anyone. Not even policemen are immune!

April 13, 2004 marked the start of the Thai year 2547!





This is Kaosan Road and it turns into a free-for-all water fight.




NO MERCY!!!




Farangs (foreigners) make favourite targets, but being dowsed with chilled water for that extra little punch is permited to all.





Chalk Faces!





These photos are inconsistent because they were taken with a disposable camera, I wouldn't dare bring my regular gear to this, as I was a BIG target. After about 3 hours of this, I had to run back to my hotel room for sanctuary. This goes on 24 hours a day for 3 days. The only place I was safe in was the airport!
