Wong Tai Sin, The Fortune Teller's Temple
Known also as the fortune tellers' temple,
Wong Tai Sing is by no means the oldest but it is one of the most prominent
temples of Hong Kong. It is busiest around Chinese New Year but any day of the
year you will find plenty of Hong Kong people here praying and burning joss
sticks. They also play the chim which is a bamboo canister filled with strips of
bamboo each with a number on it. The canister is shaken until one of the sticks
falls out. You find out what number was written on the stick and then you visit
one of dozens of fortune tellers on the side of the building where given that
number they will tell you what your fortune has in store for
you.
