NOTE: These sounds all belong to George Lucas, but so does Dark Forces, so if I were him (imagine!) I'd consider this use a "family get-together". Please don't appropriate
these soundfiles for any use outside a LucasArts game add-on, and definitely keep money OUT of the equation. This is strictly non-commercial fan activity. Sounds may be redistributed only with
their included text files, or with appropriate credit given in the readme of any levels in which these sounds are used.
(SW=Star Wars, ESB=The Empire Strikes Back, RJ=Return of the Jedi)
ATATSTEP.VOC
The booming sound Artoo-Detoo heard as Imperial walkers approached the Hoth base. (ESB) I have some notes on this one: please resist the temptation to
put this sound in the same place as an ATAT.3DO because the .3DO doesn't walk and so it couldn't make this sound. Instead, place the sound somewhere
inaccessible (like, beyond a wall on the outskirts of the level) to give the impression of additional, unseen walkers on patrol just outside the mission area.
BACTATNK.VOC
The bacta tank in the Hoth base infirmary. (ESB) Sounds like the big scary machine that it is.
BESPCELL.VOC
The lovely mood music they play in the Cloud City lock-up. (ESB) This was very difficult to sample because Chewbacca is howling throughout the time
this sound plays in the film, so this Chewbacca-free version may not be perfect. I've done all I can. I'm sorry I couldn't do better but I've got my own problems.
Yeah, "I'm a real hero."
CANTBAND.VOC
The Mos Eisley Cantina band playing the second number of their set. (SW) The first number is more famous but I thought a musically tolerable loop from
it would be too big a file. This piece loops wonderfully. Digitally transferred and edited right to the beat, I promise you won't find a better Cantina-band
soundfile for DF anywhere. I've tested this particular .VOC in various DF cantinas, and it's a hoot, lemme tell ya!
CRBFREZ1.VOC
The hum of Cloud City's carbon-freezing facility. (ESB)
CRBFREZ2.VOC
The same facility, battered by some thoughtless lightsaber damage. (ESB) Both CRBFREZ* files are good all-purpose "facility" sounds.
DAGOBAH.VOC
Alien swamp. (ESB)
The Death Star motoring toward Yavin IV. (SW) The better your bass response, the better you'll like this.
DETHSTAR.VOC
DETHSTR1.VOC
The hangar control room of the Death Star. Actually, it's any control room of the Death Star. (SW) The .VOC of choice for that technological terror
you've constructed.
DETHSTR2.VOC
Same as DETHSTR1.VOC but with a loud clicking/winding sound, which is the sound of Artoo getting it on with telnet://info.deathstar.mil/. (SW)
DETHSTR1.VOC was made by heavily filtering this sample to eliminate the clicking.
The Death Star plans being downloaded from Artoo-Detoo. Also sounds like Docking Bay 94. (SW)
DSPLANS.VOC
ECHOBASE.VOC
The Rebel command center on Hoth. (ESB) This sound transforms any room into an advanced communications and control complex. (John Williams
recorded music for the scene where this sound is, but the music was not used in the movie. Lucky for us!)
ENDOR1.VOC
Alien forest. (RJ)
ENDOR2.VOC
The spooky but inexplicable whistling as the Imperial woodsmen close in on Leia. (RJ)
EWOKSNG1.VOC and EWOKSNG2.VOC
Even George Lucas dislikes this song. (RJ, 1983 edition) I was thinking someone might put these to appropriately tongue-in-cheek use in a level.
EWOKTALK.VOC
Which gives you bigger chills: a Dark Trooper or a room full of Ewoks? (RJ) This is the longest non-music loop of the bunch.
GARAGE.VOC
Luke's garage. Or the hold area of the Millennium Falcon. Take your pick, they both sound about the same. (SW) This is the smallest soundfile in this collection.
INFIRMRY.VOC
Luke's recovery room in the Hoth base infirmary. (ESB) Another good all-purpose ship/base interior sound. Low frequencies.
LAPTINK1.VOC
A loop of the first verse of Lapti Nek, sung by Sy Snootles in Jabba's palace. (RJ, 1983 edition)
LAPTINK2.VOC
A loop of the song's chorus. (RJ, 1983 edition) This music really got Jabba "in the mood", but his plans for the evening sort of fell through.
MFINCAVE.VOC
The Falcon's cockpit is relatively quiet as the ship hides in an asteroidal "cave". (ESB) This sound provides very subtle mechanical atmosphere, excellent
in any base or ship. It's kind of hard to hear unless you have good speakers, but it's the sort of thing where if you turn it off suddenly you notice it's gone.
YAVINFST.VOC
The rain forest surrounding the Rebel base on Yavin IV. (SW) If your level is set outdoors, try using combinations of Yavin, Dagobah, and Endor
sound objects (along with DF's wind and water) placed just out of earshot of each other to create a rich sense of alien wildlife. Yes, you'll end up with a bigger
.GOB but it will sound great!
