the 4Runner

Here is a brief update.

I discovered why my amp shut off whenever I played a CD or ran my iPod through the radio. I attached the Amp ‘on’ wire to the power antenna wire on the radio. The power antenna wire on the radio only had power when the tuner was on. The amplifier wire had power whenever the power was on to the unit. Therefore, whenever I switched to a CD, the power antenna no longer needed power and in my case, the power turned off to my amp. Now, I have power regardless of my music source.

The leak in the windshield is now fixed! Three windshields were installed during the seven service calls, not including the no show. The last technician that installed the windshield spent time and did the job correctly. The only problem, which turned out better for me, was that the trim needed replacing. Toyota sent black instead of chrome.

I ran a diagnostic on the truck and found 4 trouble codes: the oxygen sensor, the coil, the igniter, the computer. I started with the cheapest, the oxygen sensor. During this repair, I pulled the upper air intake and discovered that it was caked in sludge. This year model has A LOT of emission control and fuel injection monitoring that is not computer controlled. While cleaning the sludge, I noticed that many clogged vacuum ports. After a thorough cleaning and adjustment of the TPS sensor, the 4Runner ran smooth. Now I do not have any trouble codes.

I am lining the back with marine wood (plastic) to waterproof the sides. A spray in bed liner and waterproof seat/seat covers will follow this upgrade.

The starter issue is fixed?

The Top was off the entire time I was in Columbia.
