What is Prowler?

Prowler is an image browsing and management tool with an intuitive and stylish interface. The stand-out features include:

Prowler's aim is to present your image collection in an attractive way, either for personal browsing, showing off to friends, or presentations.

Prowler supports all file image formats supported by the your installed version of QuickTime. These include PICT, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, Photoshop, etc. Prowler is only US$15 shareware and registration (payment) details are provided with Prowler.

System Requirements

Prowler likes as much RAM as possible, basically the bigger you image archive, the more RAM Prowler needs. A G3 processor is recommended for Prowler to run at it's best. The minimum system requirements are:

  • PPC, G3 or higher recommended
  • At least 16 MB of free ram
  • MacOS 8.5 or later
  • Quicktime 2.5 or later

Version 2.3 released

  • Added a Print Preview, which allows the user to print image contact sheets (catalogs).
  • Advanced control over what is visible on a contact sheet, such as page numbers and image information.
  • Added a slideshow manager. This allows you to set the exact order the images appear in the slideshow (via draw and drop), remove images, and set specific fades or wipes before individual images.
  • Basic second monitor support added, as requested by Rick Montgomery. Second monitor support is done through the Slideshow Manager.
  • The slideshow can now resample pictures to remove jagged edges when zoomed in.
  • Holding down "i" while presenting a slideshow shows image comments.
  • Thumbnail loading is now a lot quicker.
  • You can now specify the size of the thumbnails created by Prowler, as requested by Justin Miyamoto Weiner.
  • Cleaned up some of the dialogs.
  • Added an "Open with" contextual menu option, as requested by Andrew Robulack.
  • Crash when pushing up before the first file, or down after the last file fixed. As noticed by Andrew Robulack.
  • Image rotation not working, now fixed. As noticed by Andrew Robulack and Bob Ramerson.
  • Copy to and move to recent folders contextual menu now displaying and working correctly.
  • Thumbnails can now be created for files on locked volumes.
  • You can now choose whether to save the thumbnails to the file or not.
  • Window width is now remembered correctly
  • Thumbnail creation for images without thumbnails is a lot smoother now.
  • Changed the term Preview to Thumbnail to be consistent.
  • Image catalogs now look a little neater.
