Wednesday's Programme

A reminder - we're swimming Wednesday, and it's another "bring a friend and both go free" evening. You, and they, will need swimming stuff :o) , and we're meeting at HQ at 7pm, returning there about 9:30pm. You don't need uniform.

If you don't bring a friend, you'll need £2.50.

Snowdon v. Snowdonia

Talking to people today, it's apparent that there is some concern over the forthcoming trip to Snowdonia - an eleven year old was killed on Snowdon a couple of weeks ago, and, tragically, a guy from the Midlands had a heart attack on there today.

To reassure people - we're going to Snowdonia, not Snowdon itself. Snowdonia's the National Park, and we're going to be based in the very South of it. The walking that we're planning for the Saturday is all Terrain Zero. Which means what?

The Scout Association categorises land as either Terrain Zero, Terrain One, Terrain Two. The criteria for Terrain Zero are that it must be:

- be below 500 metres above sea level
- be within 30 minutes of a road going ambulance, or a building which is occupied, or another means of summoning help (e.g. 'phone box)
- contain no element of scrambling.

The route that we're taking falls comfortably within the definition of Terrain Zero. It's definitely not Snowdon.

It you want to have a chat about any aspect of the steps that we take to ensure that all of the activities we do are carried out safely, please do talk to Andy.
