Imaginary friends
Around two months ago, Cady took on twin imaginary friends. And as many twins do, these imaginary sibling friends have rhyming names. One night, she announced she was having a sleepover, and these two imaginary friends were staying the night.
The whole concept of imaginary twins makes me feel a bit guilty at times. I can’t help but think that she’s alone. Not that she’s lonely, she’s very happy and we play with her a lot. But alone, in that she does not have a sibling in her age range yet to play with. So,k she’s created a world with not one, but two friends that are imaginary siblings.
Every once in a while, they pop into conversation. It freaks me out a little bit, because she doesn’t know anyone with these names. SO, I have no idea where she came up with the names. And they seem so real to her, but hey, they’re nice enough.
Today I was gardening, and while she played in the sandbox, she mentioned them. When I tried to engage with her about these two invisibles, she quickly told me that they’re HER friends, not mine. And then she proceeded to inform me that I can’t see them, followed by a shake of the head and roll of the eyes.
The crush
Xander has my daughter's intrigue.
Xander is a boy at Cady's preschool that we have not met yet. But Cady seems to like him....Alot.
Xander. When did you sneak in to her preschool class? I haven't heard your name before. It was only Argen, Samuel, and sometimes Jason. These are the boys that Cady talks about in casual conversation. But your name, Xander, has never been mentioned. Until today.
Xander. She told me that today she asked you to marry her. Then, she apparently broke in to song.
She told me the song went something like this:
Xander, marry me. We will get married, and I will wear the princess dress. Xander, marry me. (Then followed by other words that were sung too quietly to understand)....Xander, marry meeeeeee!!!
To which you, Xander, simply replied; "No, I don't like you." Then you walked away.
Xander.
My daughter has a crush on you.
Xander.
If she were older, you might have crushed my daughter.
But, tomorrow, you will share a snack.
Brought to you by the letters Z and N
But yesterday.....it happened.
She was in the bathtub and I had cut her bangs before putting her in there. She got really queit, but was playing in the tub so I didn't think anything was happening of any significance. Well, I had left the scissors in the bathroom, and she had gotten out of the tub and cut her bangs further.
As far as I can tell, she flipped her hair forward and cut it from the back, creating not only more bangs, but a higher forehead. The bangs were pretty much Z and N shaped across her forehead.
So, reluctantly, we cut her bangs shorter than they've ever before been cut. It still looks OK, at least it's even. And so much for losing the layered look on the back of her hair.
I'm just feeling really fortunate that we didn't have an accident. I felt so badly about leaving scissors in her grasp.
Ugh
So we're down for the
count this weekend. I somehow caught some kind of
cold around Friday of last week, and spent the
weekend trying (and failing) to keep Cady and Mommy
from catching the same. Mommy seems to be the only
one left standing, though being responsible for 2
sick babies may weaken her resistances yet.
I'm over the worst myself, which afforded me time to
sit and pick through some video not yet offered to
the world.
I pieced this together just this morning for my sick
little girl.
Who, her?
No, really. She really is sweet and innocent. But she loves stickers, and usually puts them on herself instead of paper. So, when Char - Daniel's girlfriend sent these in a Cinderella Halloween card, we couldn't resist helping her out a bit.
Now, if she comes home from preschool on the back of a motorcycle, we're gonna know we made a mistake! But that will never happen, because her daddy already announced several months ago that she's not going to date till she's old enough to move out of the house (and out of college).
Too cute
This photo was just too damn cute to pass up without putting it on the blog. It was taken with the new iPhone. Scott is the only one that's played with it so far, but it seems to take fairly decent photos. Who could say no to that face?
Here are a few activity photos from the iPhone that I think are just adorable.
Nothing better than a can full of nuts for rhythm and beat.
And lastly, a Friday afternoon. Visiting Daddy's work.
What do you do when you're bored?
Sock Skating
Somewhere, somehow, Cady picked up on what skating was. Now, I still think she doesn't understand ice as anything other than that which comes out of the refrigerator, but she definitely understands skating. Somehow she also decided that Mommy and Daddy's socks make great skates. Well, the rest below will cover the rest. Feel welcome to enjoy. Music by Adrian Belew.

Fish
I've always liked fish,
and have been promising Cady a goldfish of her own
since plans started for getting the new home. In case
you haven't noticed, Cady has a favorite color. What
color would you like your room painted? Umm..
purple.. What kind of fish should we get? Umm..
purple.. What should we name your fish? PURPLE!
We talked her into naming the fish something that she
is familiar with, and we are just being sure not to
let the fish know the true meaning of the (gulp,
gulp, gulp, oh no!) new name.
