Homework and Supplies
Students will need to have a three ring binder and a set of dividers and a scientific calculator for my class. In addition, each student will need to purchase safety gear (plastic apron and full coverage goggles) in the MHS bookstore.
Homework should be expected most nights in Chemistry and Honors Chemistry. These homework assignments are either practice of a skill learned in class or follow-up questions/calculations for a lab activity. Students should expect to work on chemistry homework for 15-25 minutes per day.
We will always review homework assignments which practice a newly learned skill. Students are encouraged to ask questions in order to increase their understanding.
Tests and Quizzes
Quizzes will be given routinely to check for understanding on a homework assignment. If a student can complete the homework assignment, he/she should also do well on the subsequent quiz.
Tests will be given at the end of a unit (2-3 chapters) and will be varied in style (multiple choice, calculations, short answer questions). Tests comprise only 35% of a student's grade in my class.
Is extra help available?
Students may come in for extra help before school from 6:45 AM - 7:15 AM. Help is also available after school until 2:50 PM. Students are encouraged to schedule appointments if extra help is necessary.
How can parents contact me?
Because I do not have a phone in my classroom, the most direct way to contact me is through email. Please use my school account (roediger@mentorschools.org).
If you do not have access to email, please call the High School and leave me a message. I'll return your call as soon as I can.
