Instructions for updating the "Find" command in Tiger's Spotlight
Tired of hitting Command F, or "Find"... and not have it automatically "Find Files" by "Name" by default?
Below is a permanent fix to return your Find defaults back to where they were in pre-Tiger and the Classic MacOS.
First, download this tiny smart.plist file that updates a preference file.
Now the semi-simple steps to replace the old file with the corrected one:
Open your main Hard Drive
1) Open "System" Folder
2) Open "Library" Folder
3) Open "CoreServices" Folder
4) Locate "Finder", then hold down your Ctrl Key, then Click, Hold on the Finder Icon
5) A Popup Window will appear, choose, "Show Package Contents"
6) Open "Contents" Folder
7) Open "Resources" Folder
8) Now Drag the "default_smart.plist" file you downloaded earlier into the Resources Folder
9) Click "Authenticate"
10) Say "Replace" existing file
11) Enter Admin Password
12) IMPORTANT: Now either Restart, or simply Force Quit the Finder / Relaunch the Finder
DONE
Now Hitting Command-F (or Apple-F) now Finds Files!
