Subj: First encounter Favorite song Date: Sun, Jan 8, 1995 1:58 AM CDT From: GregMeier@aol.com To: old-ways@tomservo.edaal.ingr.com Wham! I stopped in my tracks. What was this I was hearing? It was the most beautiful song in the world. The voice! I had to stop and listen even though I was in the middle of work. (and it was a long, long song). I had the folk-ways program on, coming from WOJB ( Radio station on nearby Ojibwa Reservation), here deep in the woods of northern Wisconsin. The only station that plays the strange type of music I liked to listen to. " The Lady of Shalott by Loreena Mckennitt" said the DJ. At the time, I was trying to read "LE MORTE DARTHUR, the birth, life and acts of King Arthur,of his noble knights of the round table, their marvelous enquests and adventures, the achieving of the San Greal and in the end Le Morte Darthur with the dolourous death and departing out of this world of them all". By Sir Thomas Mallory , Illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley", So this song with Sir Lancelot and Camelot really caught my attention. I knew I had to hear more! But it was months before I ran across her tape at an import store,(Canadian stuff) on a short, one day excursion to the shores of Lake Superior (Duluth,MN) I saw "The Visit" in a very small display ,sitting on the counter. I grabbed it! I couldn't wait to get to the van. The two hour trip home flew by as I discovered more delightful songs. I became a Fan-addict just like*that*! What more can I say.
