Subject: Loreena found in Charles DeLint novel
An OWL long ago mentioned that LM and author Charles DeLint knew each other.
I've discovered many references to LM in one of his latest novels.
"Someplace to Be Flying"
by Charles DeLint
page 12-reference to street named "McKennitt"
(where one of the main characters lives.)
page 150-reference to street named "Quinlan"
Chapter 5-Title.... "Tarnished Mirrors" -pages 229-365
(starts off with this quote by Loreena on page 229)
"I would say that I'm madly polishing this unbelievably
tarnished mirror and hoping something shines forth."
-LOREENA MCKENNITT,
FROM AN INTERVIEW IN NETWORK
(APRIL/MAY 1994)
page 231-another reference to "McKennitt Street"
page 269-paragraph where character explains.....
(based on the LM quote at start of chapter)
" "Because stories are like mirrors," Annie said finally.
She turned to look at Kerry. "When they've gone dark
and the glass is obscured, it's maybe for a reason. Polish
them and you might not want to accept the person looking
back at you as yourself." She touched her chest. "We
carry those stories inside us - mirrors we can look into,
or show other people. But I don't want to be your
mirror. I don't want to be responsible for what you see." "
DeLint has many similar LM references in other novels,
but this story seems to have the most numerous. I suspect
I've only caught the most obvious ones. I think, perhaps there
were other, more subtle connections that I missed.
If DeLint and McKennitt are fairly close friends, I'm sure
there might be "inside jokes" that only LM would recognize. :-)
