San Diego Day CacheIt's a good thing I had the numbers wrong on this one. After we parked, my GPSr said to go south 200 feet to an eagle nesting platform. As there were people and dogs wandering about, we decided to explore the levee and dam first. We went all the way to the spillway. While we were enjoying the scenery and waiting for the crowd to thin out, Crazy #3 dechiphered the clue which indicated we were closer to the cache than we thought. At that moment, Sane found a painted turtle wedged on it's side between the steel of the dam and the rocks. Lucky turtle!! We rescued it from dire straits and released into the flowage where it could burrow into the mud and perhaps survive to see another spring. Serendipity in action! A short search revealed the partial shell of not so lucky turtle wedged behind another rock. I headed back to truck to find out I had entered the wrong coordinates, but using the clue, the others found the cache before I could get back. The newly entered (and correct) coordinates were right on! Found and took TB Little Buzz. Left Wisconsin Wildcards on a giant paperclip. We are Crazy4, minus one, plus Sane and Stable. TFTC! |
