Anna and Sarah to Test AI CS in OSX 10.2.6
Well the first try did no t happen but with the
frustration of wanting to move forward, we have decided to push ahead with a
R&D team to test drive AICS. Both Anna and Sarah will have Multi-Boot OSX
machines to flip between the PUMA install that works well with AI10 and for
production is prefered... the other has Jaguar and we are installing AICS to
test drive.
For now Anna has upgraded to Entourage for eMail and
Sarah will be upgraded today 12-4-03

Retrospect running on OSX is a Hit!
After I did the 48 hour full backup... I ran a normal
back up and we hit 6 errors only!!!
A sample of the listings of errors on the Backup...
this one ran in 53 minutes. It scans the server, sees whats missing, writes
it... eliminates what was deleted since last back up. thats
fast.Thes file were open during the
backup... if it ran at night we wouldn't have these errors unless a Document was
left open on a machine.

Called ADOBE and got Serial Number to Instsall CS on its way!
Case # 5775852
We
called ADOBE Support concerning our dead serial numbers...
Got them to send us a new SN to install one copy of
Illustrator CS on our CPUs to try. i will install on 006 and 002 for now when we
get it.
Am in talks with MacMall (Gabe-
of course he's resisting the return at first) to return the 6 other copies we
need returned. we are not ready for the TEXT ENGINE improvements yet. We need
to work out how to use with clients/customers we share documents with before we
can move forward. R&D!
PS- The new
Text Engine in Illustrator CS is supposed to be great!

Fixing of Bad Drives... Testing OSX and Retrospect stability...
We have reformatted Backup Firewire drives for
Wednesday and Thursday.
We ran daily test on the thursday drive using
Retrospect and OSX on CPU006 (OSX 10.2) successfully after done... Thursday
drive seems to be fine now.. even running on OS9 server. We still are running
daily Backups on tat server
(Dan).
Wednesday's drive just completed
a Full Backup of 45GB on the CPU 006 today (48 Hour duration from CPU006- Remote
access takes longer to do as well as the CPU running it- 400MHz). I heard no
complaints about server slowness from doing it all day long while people worked.
That is good. I think we will be able to run Back ups from an OSX box remotely.
this will prevent the server from freezing occasionally while doing a local back
up (OS9).
I am going to run a Normal
Backup to see that if now, a complete BU has been done, will it now go faster to
run in normal mode as opposed to a Reuse (which erases and writes new the whole
shabang on the drive) See retrospect log for details. It might be nice to
upgrade the Server to OSX. :)
Many file
that were "not Backed up" - were files that were open while the backup ran
through. Only 66 errors out of 46GB of data... Thats pretty good... But we want
100%!!

Netscape does not recognize Profiles when downgrading OSX!
Denise and Anna had a horrible experience while
Downgrading their CPUs to 10.1.5
We found out they couldn't use their eMail in
Netscape anymore because it wouldn't read their profile to access the info. So
i had to use an
application:
www.weirdkid.com saved
the day with an application called Emailchemy which converted all their email
from Netscape's format to Entourage's format.
See:
http://weirdkid.com/products/emailchemy/index.html
We
exported their Address books in .txt format in Tab Delineated form and imported
them into Entourage using the import / text file / ... feature. A slight bit of
cleaning during the import insured we got all the information quickly and
cleanly into Entourage.

the new version of illustrator does away with the annoying bloating adobefnt05
file that Illustrator 10 creates and then beach ball spins on for minutes on
end?

All systems are returned to Mac OS 10.1.5! Illustrator 10 :(
After a couple of days working with Adobe illustrator
10 on OS 10.2, we have decided that Illustrator CS is too vastly different and
we needed to Return to 10.1.5 for productivity... Sorry Apple, but Adobe is
keeping us back in the old School.
After a couple of days and waiting for the Adobe CS
to be delivered, we have taken back own, Denise's and Anna's CPUs (002 and 007)
to OSX 10.1.5-
What we did was on the
"Classic Partition" we installed a version of
10.1.5
Moved their eMail from Netscape
to Microsoft Entourage because the format allows us to switch if necessary
between OSes easiser (MBOX format standard). Netscape 7.1 wouldn't see the users
profile when we backed down to
10.1.5.
Had to re setup Font Locations
(Use User/Library/Fonts/...) - note: Will need to be moved when upgrading or
starting in classic to be used!!!

RETROSPECT driver 4.1 update installed on JRoll_SERVER
This is the latest update to Retrospect Application
v5.1
Trying to discover why Thursday back ups Hang the
server.
I and reFormatting the Firewire
Drive marked Thursday (OWC#586199)- Zero out this time! takes approx 5 hours for
180-GB volume. This will let us know its not the HardDrive...
Next we will need to Check the
Firewire Controller (most likely will need to send back to OWC for
that)
