I'm creating this Web site for those of you itching to install HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights onto your focus, but are hesitant to go for it and take a chance without having some previous wiring work behind you. The rest of you looking at this web site are probably wanting to look at what is involved in the upgrade The lights shown in this installation guide were available as stock equipment for the 2002 Mach Audio focus, and will be available as a dealer installed option on most 2003 focus models for $450 (all amounts are in U.S. dollars). For those with vehicles constructed prior to the 2003 model year an after-market upgrade is your only option at this time. Important Note: These HID lights will not work in the PZEV model of the focus without moving some of the hoses around the lights. Please see this link on FocalJet for more information on how to modify them to fit in the PZEV. These instructions are specifically for the SVT, but all U.S. focus models will work the same way. There are a numerous amount of ways of doing this project including added fuses, relays, and wiring, but this is how I chose to do it based on the recommendation of a couple electrical engineers. Before we get started, I need to mention that I can't be held liable if you totally screw up your car, it catches on fire and explodes into a thousand pieces, etc. Please feel free to link to this home page from your site. E-mail me at alf@mac.com with any questions comments or just to say "thanks for making this how-to." Positive feedback is a good way to get me to do more of these as I do installs and upgrades on my SVT. The amount of e-mail I receive will ultimately determine my response time.
Click here to download a pdf of this how-to (approx 2MB), or download the latest .zip or .tgz file (approx 1.8MB) of the HTML and images for use on a laptop during install. Unzip, double click on index.html and you're good to go. I'll update the pdf, zip, and tgz files any time I update the page. Please note that I no longer own the SVT focus. Due to the small size of the car and expanding family as well as reliability issues with my particular car, I traded it in for a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 GT. I will keep this page up and running until I either no longer receive any traffic, or I no longer have a .Mac account.
