The Road to MufindiFrom the Bush to Tea Gardens
We got up early to continue our quest for Lions, the
only thing we haven’t seen yet. While still a little groggy, we were ready
to shoot by 7am. For 4 hours we searched the park. It’s funny how after a
few days of drives, we were going “Oh...it’s just a Zebra” or
“It’s only a Giraffe that’s eating 4 feet away from the
car.” We had seen so many that we were now only focused on finding Simba
or the LIon. While we saw many beautiful landscapes, we failed to see any Lions,
something rare for this area.

In the afternoon, we barreled our way to Mufindi as Hanif attempted to get there before dark. After 2 hours of rough road, we reached Iringa and the smooth Tarmac which we enjoyed for a few hours until we hit Mufindi and turned back to dirt roads. The final 10 km was winding through endless fields of tea. The Germans began these tea farms in the 20s and they have since grown to employ over 7000 Tanzanians in the picking and processing of the tea. After a quick dinner, we retired and prepared for a day of shooting. Posted: Fri - July 25, 2003 at 09:54 PM Africa, Summer (Winter) 2003 Email Comments |
