Production in Dar

Thoughts on Global Production

Not much to say for today. I worked on the commercial for Mobiltel. Just an animatic. Everyone here said they might final it...which kind of scared me because it was so rough. That’s kind of the situation here. The expectations of advertisers here is much lower than the US. Of course, someone with film production experience could have alot of fun here ;)

It’s actually something I’m surprised that others from the US haven’t taken advantage of yet...especially in the current economic condition in places like San Francisco. A _house_ here is $300/month. The ad budgets, given the expectations, are actually not too bad. And you can go see Giraffes on the weekend. I don’t see it as a place that someone might move forever, but if you were a beginner/intermediate in the US...you could dominate the market here... If you also had access to US work, you would be set...which is exactly the opportunity we plan to offer. That’s how the Pixel Corps is structured. Standardization and training prepare artists to distribute their work and get work from anywhere in the world. While many of the production staff in Tanzania will be local...I also see adventurous artists from around the world taking advantage of the “Oasis” of training and technology that we are creating. As they move to Pixel Corps locations, these areas become an international community of digital artists...not made up from any one region...true global citizens.

Tommorrow, I speak to the Dar es Salaam graphics community about the Pixel Corps.
