The Not-So-Lazy Lagoon...DVD Production in Paradise
![]() Todd trying to remember what he was doing in the US... For the most part, we were able to resist the temptation of the Lazy Lagoon. A cool breeze kept the upper deck very comfortable as we set up shop. It was a bit of a contradiction. We were in Paradise with 4 Powerbooks, cameras everywhere, and much work to do. Of course, this was the idea. ![]() The view from the new office... ![]() Todd captures a boat on its way out to sea. ![]() The crew at work... First, we had DVD production to undertake. Chantal and Gloria were logging tapes while I built the open and Todd worked on the DVD interface. Todd actually spent a portion of the day getting one of the Tiitaniums running more smoothly and shooting some Star Fish in low tide. ![]() Hanif on the Cel. ![]() Chantal taking a very unergonomic position... ![]() One Powerbook isn't enough for Todd... Low tide is more than just a little drop as with most beaches. As the water recedes, an entirely new landscape of rocks emerge. Through the rocks climb all sorts of the Starfish and other creatures. During lunch Ginny, Alex’s wife and business partner, called out in Swahili to fishermen passing by that she wanted some more fish...talk about delivery...a half hour later they were on the beach negotiating for the catch. We asked if we could take a few photos and they obliged cheerfully. We then took about 200 pictures in 5 minutes. They were a fun group of men probably 12-20 years old. They insisted on posing with us and even our tripod...which does look pretty cool :) It was funny how often they would become serious when the camera was pointed towards them. They would be laughing one moment and deadpan the next. It seems cultural to be straight when photographed. ![]() Our Fishermen ![]() Negotiating the Fish prices... ![]() Chantal's new friend... ![]() mmm...Fresh Calamari ![]() When are we leaving these Zungu's? The rest of the afternoon was filled with more DVD production and the beginnings of 3D work for a cel phone commercial that I have ended up taking on. It’s mostly just a few dancing phones talking about SMS (text messaging). Ginny asked us if we wanted to have some music but the quiet mixed with the sea was plenty for us. We worked until lights out stopping occasionally for Chai and to listen to the water in the distance. Tomorrow, some of the folks have a plane ride for some ariel shots and we continue the DVD work.
