Meetings at Media For Development
A trip to Media For Development (MFD).
Today started with team planning. We're working on
small shows that we will eventually stream in the US. The subjects are all Arts
and Culture. It's not that there isn't news...just that CNN, the BBC, and a host
of other NGOs have "what is wrong in Africa" completely covered. We're
interested in what Zimbabweans have to offer the rest of the world...what makes
them unique.
Anyway, we covered digital set plans, compositing, subjects for the show, and timelines. It's a little mundane but absolutely necessary. The process will only be successful if it continues to grow between my trips. Figuring out ways to support the students and structure their time has been a major focus for me. We basically have them 2 days a week while I'm gone. We need to fill their time with new training and, most importantly, production.

We also began working on a few shots for ZIFF. I hope to post the student work by the end of the week. It's pretty fun. They have become fairly good at Adobe After Effects .
After a little Beef Stew and Sadza at East 24, Roddy and I went over to see the Sound Studio that MFD just built for their radio show. It's really impressive. They've got a very quiet room, great board and great crew...makes me want to make a movie in Zimbabwe...oh wait...I already wanted to do that :))

I shot a QTVR of the Studio...
For geeks out there...I used a Nikon 4500 with a 183 degree Fisheye, a Kaidan QTVR rig, Panoweaver to pull the images together, Cubic Converter to create the Cubical tiles, Photoshop to clean up the rig, and Cubic Converter to output the file...all in all...about 20 minutes of work. With the 180 lens, it's really quite fun and easy to take pictures "In the round"...
That's it for today...tomorrow we shoot Greenscreen at Ideas at Work and record an mbira artist at MFD!
