Media Training Everywhere...

Another visit to ITV and graphics training at DTP.

We began today with a presentation at ITV talking about the Pixel Corps. Nearly 40 people attended as I walked through both the Pixel Corps and graphics technology. We talked about compositing, 3D and Photogrammetry. The questions were very practical as people immediately focused on how to apply what we were talking about. It was exciting to talk to so many people so far along in Africa.

We had lunch at an all-you-eat Indian restaurant in Dar. $3500 ($3.50) buys a feast of Authentic Indian food. I really love indian food and it’s difficult to say “when” which left me rolling out of the restaurant.

In the afternoon, I worked with DTP artists, DPI instructors and a few others on basic Photoshop skills. We started out with basics but by the end I was getting pushed into projects that were so good that I think I will make training out of them when i return home.

I finished the day with Tony, a former DTP artist now at a local ad agency. Tony is one of the most talented computer artists I have met in Africa and could hold his own in San Francisco. What makes him so good is not what he knows now but the intensity and thoughtfulness he brings to the process. I feel like he is sucking my brain dry! I very much need to have a mix of experienced artists with beginners so I am making sure Tony also gets pushed by the program.

This is actually a key part of the program. To make sure everyone is challenged and supported. It’s a game that will take time to perfect it...maybe the rest of my life...but it’s a game worth playing.
