The HomestretchTraining and a Visitor from Kenya
We’re on the homestretch to leaving. Maina
picked up us up this morning and on the way to office, Todd and I realized that
we were waiting for a driver to drive us 4 Blocks!!! Pretty embarrassing. I
would much rather walk and feel more of the city. I don’t think
we’ve walked more than block since we arrived contrasted with the 2-3
miles a day I seemed to walk during the first trip in
Zimbabwe.
Anyway, we spent the morning working on open ended projects. There’s never enough time and while I need to get home, I wish a had a few more days.We didn’t get to go to Zanzibar which will have to wait until the next trip. We had lunch at Shafiq’s and returned for more training with the DPI instructors. In the evening, I finished the blogs and we had dinner at, you guessed it...el restuarante Shafiq! I can’t believe how much food Shafiq’s wife cooks! She always telling us we should eat more...but if we even tried, we wouldn’t fit through the door :) ![]() One person with a Satellite dish makes lots of friends in the neighborhood. ![]() This and broken glass are popular decoration for the house walls. ![]() Shafiq and his Daughter ![]() The scene at Lunch... ![]() The road back to DTP ![]() Maina discussing the Pixel Corps with perspective members. The Husband is from Zimbabwe. When I started talking to him in Shona, it took him a minute to realize it wasn't Swahili. Oddly enough, he didn't expect an American in Tanzania to open up in Shona . Either that or my pronunciation is really bad :) I found myself, in the end, dropping from English to Swahili to Shona and back...it was a little hectic...but fun. ![]() Todd discovers the power of Baobab candy. He has now agreed to stay in Dar forever and work for 2 pieces a day. :) Rita arrived from Nairobi at about 11:30pm. She took a 15 hour bus ride down to meet with us. She represents Yebi Interactive and Pixel Unit in Nairobi. We’ve been talking to them about the Pixel Corps and the their graphics work (they do graphics and commercials in Kenya) for over a year. It was great to finally meet Rita. We have so many questions for her, and she has quite a few of her own, so tomorrow will be absorbed with much of that discussion. ![]() Rita doing some late night SMSing at the office.
