The Augmented Scale Harmonized
A few harmonic possibilities of the augmented scale
explored page 1 page 2
The augmented scale supports some
interesting - if nebulous - harmonic colors. The never-quite-resolved feeling
of this scale can be attributed to the three equally weighted tonal centers. If,
for instance, an A flat major chord resolves to a C major chord then that C
chord begs further resolution to an E chord and so forth. Kind of like a musical
version of rock-paper-scissors - any given chord can be
trumped by the next highest up in the three way cycle.
