open string legato


harp-like effect

There is a technique which renders a harp-like effect to guitar lines by alternating between sustained open strings and fingered notes. Employed by guitarists as diverse as Chet Atkins, Martin Taylor and Allan Holdsworth, there has not yet been, to my knowledge, an official name given for it - I refer to it as the open string legato technique.
