notes
This tune is played with a calypso-esque feel throughout (ergo the 2/2 time signature -- the quarter note undercurrent is undeniable).

The jam is setup with a "primitive" groove on the tom-toms with a back-beat on the high hat by drummer Joaquim Paes Henriques.

Given the very "folky" quality of the tune's various motifs, i'm compelled to wonder how much Baden had "borrowed." Or as producer Joachim Berendt explains: "...Vidigal is a friend of Baden's who owns a saloon, a "gafieira," in a Rio suburb. The number is a true country dance that goes back to traditional Brazilian music of the 19th century..." [from lp's original liner notes]
