Tony Charles is an artist practising in the North East of England where influences of an industrial backdrop continue to feature within his work. Drawing, painting, sculpture and installation are usually created in response to a location during various residencies. These site specific contexts inspire work that is often underpinned by his interest in the current post-industrial era and its ever changing ‘work-scape’. Many of his investigations have focussed upon collisions between industrial and domestic environments through the use of disparity between object and material, resulting in many sculptural hybrids of these bi-polar worlds.
