We interviewed 49 children at St Nicholas School. We interviewed them because Spelthorne borough council wanted us to find out what their favourite website was.

The Questions

Here is a list of the questions we asked:

How much time do you spend on the internet? What do you use the internet for? Which websites do you visit most often? What is your favourite website? Why do you use this website and not other sites about the same thing? What keeps you coming back to this website? What do you like most about this website and why? What do you like about the… (layout, colours, fonts, pictures and animations)? Any other comments?

Interpreting the Results

We put our results together. First we organised the favourite sites into year groups. We used Microsoft word to record the data, after listing the data in year groups we organised them into favourite sites for the whole school. We found that the favourite sites were CBBC, Pokemon and Chelsea.

Next we recorded how much time is spent by the children on the internet. We decided to record the data in a bar chart. We settled on how long they spent each day so we divided it by 7 if they answered for a week.

We grouped how long they spent by cutting the amounts of time into groups 0-15minutes 16-30minutes 31minutes-1hr.

We also organised the answers to what they used the web for into year groups and produced a pie chart for each year. Then we organised the whole school into a pie chart of what they used the web for.

Finally We made some lists of their comments from the other questions to help us with our website design.
