Lunch hut in a sheep pasture |
Last,
we were allowed to hold a couple orphaned joeys. Beth is holding a tammar wallaby,
and I am holding a gray kangaroo. Then
it
was off to lunch. We had lunch in this shed in the middle of a sheep pasture.

napping Australian sea lions |

sea lion and shore birds |

sea lion pup |
We
then traveled to Seal Bay. These are Australian sea lions. They spent
most of the time sleeping on the beach with short bouts of fighting. This
pup was
waiting for its mother to return from feeding. It was chased around by
some young males
before it escaped off into
surrounding scrub.

one day old sea lion pup |

Ligurian bees |

weedy sea dragon |
On
the way back to the bus, we saw this recently born pup in the
scrub. It had been born the night before and was looking for
its mother's
teats. Last stop on the
tour was a trip toa honey farm. Kangaroo Island has the only know population
of
Ligurian honeybees. They are known for their docility and high productivity. That
night we went on a penguin tour, but before leaving the marine center we
were able to see a variety of local fishes and invertebrates including this
leafy
sea dragon.
