MP3 Magician

MP3 Magician started as my first fairly complex Cocoa application. The application was created for my sister, who had an MP3 player that was not supported by iTunes. Consequently, she found it cumbersome to get her music onto the device. I set about writing an application that would allow her to easily copy files from her CDs or from her computer to her MP3 player. To make the whole process easier, I decided to use LAME (http://lame.sourceforge.net) to do the grunt of the work so I could concentrate on the user interface.

Features

• Support for any removable device that is mountable by Mac OS X.
• MP3 Magician listens for drive mount notifications and automatically updates the user interface accordingly.
• A refresh button is available but should not be needed as it was really just needed for debugging purposes.
• MP3 encoding is performed with the help of LAME, a very popular LGPL MP3 encoder.
• The encoding process can be safely aborted at any time.
• You can copy and/or encode entire folders (and their sub-folders) at once.
• Show Info option to view properties of (and play) music files.
• LAME is fully customisable via the Preferences menu.
  

Universal Binary

MP3 Magician was made a Universal binary in Version 1.0.1. The encoding speeds that can be reached on Intel Macs are vastly superior to the PowerPC.
