back yard

the south winds blows sweetly tonight
mother fox crosses the road with two kits
we had a meal made with love and good conversation
the frogs chat as well in the wetness of the field
we spoke of complex things
like war in iraq
once again all is peaceful here
she says maybe the wind we're getting
kissed tortola on it's way here
just like our north winds might have swept
down from hudson bay
we can smell the sea tonight
we're tired and we wish we could stay up
just to sit on the deck in the breeze
how do we get from here to land mines
and dirty bombs and pre-emptive strikes
do not mustafa and francoise and fernando
also aspire to nothing more than
the kits the frogs
a meal from a woman's heart
good company
sons and daughters
a golden half moon setting into the hill
and a breeze that whispers of some place else
not every eve is like this
but you can travel to exotic places
and find nothing finer
we voyage overseas to find these moments
they are in the back yard
