we can not go back

gas hogs fuel oil asphalt highways
turning engines wheels exploding pistons
billions of parts millions of jobs
sucking the air from our common lung
mr benz and mr ford
have unlocked the key to the enigma
how can we live on this planet
in total disregard to its well being?
can we find they might have asked
a way to be so out of balance
that it will either crash towards planetary peril
or into some end of our economic survival
we all work jobs that have no meaning
it's jobs to support other jobs that
support other jobs
but it is all driven by the car
take that away and it all crumbles
keep it so and it all crumbles
love hate the car
i ooh and ahh a mint woody
or 57 chevy mint green
i loved my vw camper wagon all 60 horses
listen, late at night on the solstice i hear
not much
in willow valley
until a car a mile away starts its run through
like a buzz saw through sleepy paradise
2 point 4 cars per household
we have three
an oldie we call grandma for my daughter
take good care of her grandma
but listen to a few hundred million cars
smell it
little fires burning churning out
a smoke that won;t clear
and china india have not yet begin to ignite
we are stuck now
are we not?
can't live with them
can't live without
no plan to change
no will to change
i hate my truck
would i hate my life if i had no truck?
you betcha
that world is gone
the path to it is paved over
and we can not got back
