| | The map again ; we shall go to Sozopol, Kamenbriag and Madara | |
| | | Sozopol has long beaches, crowded in summer | |
| | | But it is also a charming village, alike Nessebar, a bit more pleasant. | |
|
| | The same house than previous slide, just a different angle with different angles | |
| | | Often, the wood is covering the stone of the higher levels | |
| |
| | new houses. Today inhabitants kept the particular style of construction | |
| | | In the old part of the village, churches are small and half burried, | |
| | | ... and well decorated ... | |
|
| | | Sozopol is a near island, with a real island next to it, St John. There is a | |
| | | petrified cedar forest submerged when the Black Sea level suddenly raised | |
|
| | a few million years ago ! | |
| | | A nice place for week-ends ! | |
| | | Now let's go North, along the coast, to Kamenbriag. Let's picnic first ! | |
|
| | In Bulgarian, Kamen means stone, Briag means coast, shore | |
| | | This is where the name comes from : the stone ! | |
| | | The landscape in Kamenbriag can be dry, rocky, or green and bushy | |
|
| | The wind and the waves have made these cliffs | |
| | | carving in the stone for thousands of years, | |
| | | but also humans did it at different ages | |
|
| | There are many other caves in the neighbourhoud | |
| | | and ruins of ancient fortress | |
| | | even a Thracian necropole with tumbs carved into the rock | |
|
| | One can spend a full day there, visiting and | |
| | | wandering around . Let's go now to a totally different place ... | |
| | | Madara ! Well inside the land, this place is known because of a knight | |
|
| | The Madara Knight , with the lion and the dog , carved in the 8th century | |
| | | At the top of the cliff, there is an ancient fortress | |
| | | Steps have been carved in the rock, for easier climbing | |
|
| | Once at the top, the landscape is superb | |
| | | Rocks take so many shapes | |
| | | Wind, rain and ice did a god job again | |
|
| | |
| | Very nice view from the top, but one may also pass round the steep hill | |
| | | It is also beautiful from below . | |
