Work work work... Done
Lots of work on my AGU presentation,
now I'm done.
On Monday, I met with Dick and decided to strip
out penetrating particles from my AGU talk. I worked all day Monday and into
the night on my presentation, without penetrating particles. I needed to turn
in the talk on Tuesday. I had dinner Monday night in the hotel restaurant --
fried calamari, filet mignon, and molten chocolate cake with ice cream. Briefly
iChatted with William, Hsuan, and James (and
Bessie).
On Tuesday, after attending
the AGU meeting in the morning and having lunch with Eric and Rick at the
Riverwalk food court (I had food court sushi, Louisiana-style with crawfish
rolls), I turned in my talk at the AGU speaker ready room and eventually
returned to my hotel room, after shopping for t-shirts for William and
James.
At 5 PM Tuesday afternoon, I
walked to Jackson Square via Decatur St. in the French Quarter. I took pictures
of the Andrew Jackson statue and the cathedral there, including a plaque
commemorating a visit by Pope John Paul II. I considered attending the
afternoon mass, but it was late, and the Mass was almost over by the time I got
there.
At 7 PM, back at the Sheraton, I
met with Dick, Sandy, Debby, Andrew, Mark, and Rick, and we went to the French
Quarter for dinner at Mr. B's Bistro. I had seafood gumbo, deep-fried,
cornmeal-crusted soft shell crab on a bed of corn and a sauce, with a glass of
white wine, and for dessert, I had B's Honey Hive, a pastry topped with honey
pecan ice cream and a meringe topping, with chocolates shaped like honey bees
and drizzled with chocolate and butterscotch sauce. My part of the bill came to
$60.
Tuesday night, I returned to my
room, iChatted briefly with home, and then worked until 5 AM this morning on my
presentation.
Gave my presentation this
afternoon at 2:15 PM -- see the work log entry. Went shopping again, then
returned to my room for a rest before meeting with Rick L. and Mark for dinner
in the French Quarter at Deanie's Seafood restaurant. I had tons of crawfish --
a pound of boiled crawfish for an appetizer (Mark and Rick had salads), and then
I had a Crawfish Quartet for my entree (fried crawfish, crawfish balls (like
crab cakes), crawfish au gratin, and crawfish etouffe). I also had a strawberry
dacquiri. My part of the bill came to
$34.
I'm done. What else can I do
here?
